MEET OUR TEAM
Cindy Harcourt, MSW, LCSW
Owner/Therapist
Hello, I’m Cindy Harcourt and I opened Harcourt Counseling Services over 30 years ago so I could meet and help people just like you! I offer a safe, non-judgmental place for you and I to work through your life struggles. I will accept you unconditionally and give you the opportunity to vent, process, and learn while we work together.
With over 35 years of experience, it is likely I have helped numerous people in a situation similar to yours, but everyone is affected differently. I want to know how your situation is affecting you and help you learn effective ways to cope, problem solve, and heal. We will have some deep, serious discussions, but when it’s time to be light-hearted, we can laugh together, too.
The most common type of therapy I use with adults is cognitive-behavior therapy, but I will incorporate other approaches as you need them. When working with your child, I will use evidence-based play therapy. Feeling comfortable and safe through play therapy will help your child communicate openly and be more receptive to learning skills they may need to learn.
Until recently I worked with a certified therapy dog, Chef. I was blessed to have an amazing dog that I could share with my patients. In July 2024 we were given the unexpected and heartbreaking news of her liver cancer diagnosis. Despite this difficult news, Chef remained her cheerful self, continuing to bring light into our lives. Her courage and resilience were an inspiration to us all. I have always been an animal lover, so I loved being able to combine two of my passions: animals and therapy. You can learn more Chef through her in-memory biography below.
Personal: I am definitely an extrovert so I am energized by social interaction. I love to travel, hang out with family and friends, meet new people, try new activities and when I need to slow down I work in the flower garden, read daily devotions, and take walks to enjoy nature. I value physical health as much as emotional health so am frequently researching ways to eat healthier and remove environmental toxins from our lives. One of my favorite activities is yoga due to it's amazing benefits both mentally and physically! I have experienced many difficult losses and life challenges so have gone through a healing journey of my own. I continue to feel blessed to be able to help others as they heal from their own trauma and life challenges.
Now that you know about me, I’d like to learn more about you!
Dreama Hallgarth, MSW, LCSW
Hi, my name is Dreama Hallgarth. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing counseling services to individuals, couples, and families at Harcourt Counseling Services in Rushville, Indiana. I graduated from IUPUI with my Master’s Degree in 1993 and have been with Harcourt Counseling since 1996. I enjoy helping people find solutions to problems that many of us face at one time or another during our lives. Common reasons clients seek my services include stress, depression, anxiety, and grief. Difficulties that often are part of parenting and marital relationships are also factors that lead many to seek counseling. Children and teens also benefit from a supportive atmosphere to address school related problems such as social anxiety, academic challenges, and peer relationships.
When change is possible, I assist clients in identifying strategies to meet this goal, and when change is beyond an individual’s control I encourage learning techniques to help manage the stress and various feelings that can result from difficult circumstances. This is done through a caring, supportive counseling experience in individual, marital, or family therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most common therapeutic framework that is used with teens and adults. Play therapy is effective with children, and your child may be excited to come to counseling to “play games”. I promise that while we have fun playing, the goal is always to learn healthy ways to express and cope with emotions as well as learning problem solving techniques in an age appropriate way. I also have had experience leading groups, conducting parenting and anger management classes, and leading character education classes.
Personal: I am a lifelong resident of Rush County and enjoy many elements of small town and rural life. I am an active member of Center Christian Church and especially enjoy singing with our praise team and working with the youth, as well as helping with women’s ministries. I have been married to my husband
for 29 years and occasionally even get roped into helping him on the farm or going along with him to a Bluegrass music event. We have three sons who have kept us quite busy over the years attending school activities and sporting events. My favorite stress relievers are chats with my friends and family, long walks with our dogs along the river, and singing along with whatever music is playing on the radio. I also enjoy spending a day with friends and family hunting for treasures in antique stores and flea markets, and hikes in the state parks and the Great Smoky Mountains.
I am looking forward meeting you and having the opportunity to work with you to achieve your
therapeutic goals.
Adam Jarman, MA, LMHC
“There is a saying that states “The easiest way to escape a problem is to solve it.” We know that
pain inevitably accompanies many situations. Rather than avoiding this pain, I will help you
navigate it. We will work together to identify your strengths and your own personal values to
create actions to help you live a fulfilling life. With compassion and acceptance I will listen to your unique experiences, and get to know you as an individual. Whether it may be anxiety, phobias, depression, healing from trauma, obsessive/ruminating thoughts, or distress in romantic/non-romantic relationships, I will help you face any life challenges you are experiencing and identify what might be creating barriers in your life.
On a personal note, I have lived in Rush County most of my life. I am married and love spending time with my immediate and extended family. I enjoy the outdoors and going on walks with my wife and dog to unwind after a long day. I have a passion for the helping profession and find it a privilege to listen to others’ stories to promote self-awareness and overall wellness.
I am available to see children, adolescents and adults for individual, family and marriage counseling. Specialties include the treatment of anxiety, depression, relationship issues and trauma recovery. I also have extensive training in ADHD in adults and children. Reduced cost sessions are available to make it more affordable to receive counseling. I look forward to listening and learning about you as we walk through your challenges together to find healing, growth and self-acceptance.
Sheryl Martin
We have been very fortunate to have Sheryl Martin as our office manager for 20 years. She helps our office run efficiently and is here to welcome you when you arrive, answer questions, schedule appointments and file insurance claims. She maintains the same confidentiality as our therapists and helps make our office a warm, friendly environment. She is very calm, caring and always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Stephanie Owen, PMHNP
My name is Stephanie (Stiers) Owen, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Although I am not prescribing medications at Harcourt Counseling Services, I do offer individuals and couples counseling sessions.
I was born and raised in Rush County and have had a massage therapy practice since 1997. I enjoy working out early in the morning with my husband and then preparing large, healthy evening meals whenever we are finally back home together at the end of our busy days. “Biohacking” or finding small changes that we can make to maintain our physical and mental health is something we find fun!
I consider it a privilege to get to know you and listen to your thoughts and feelings. I recognize that everyone is unique with different strengths and weaknesses. Whether the issue is one of anxiety, depression, confusion, or you are simply overwhelmed with the details of your personal life or by the chaos of the world around us, I am here to help you process your experiences. I strive to provide a safe and relaxing environment in which we can work together to create a tailored treatment plan to empower you and assist you in reaching your goals.
In Loving Memory of Chef
Chef was a beloved member of the Harcourt family and of our community, bringing joy, comfort, and unconditional love to so many. Chef worked as a certified therapy dog at Harcourt Counseling from 2016 to 2024. She loved to snuggle with people who came into the office, show off her tricks to demonstrate self control and good behavior, and be a comforting presence to everyone she met.
In July 2024 we were given the unexpected and heartbreaking news of her liver cancer diagnosis. Despite this difficult news, Chef remained her cheerful self, continuing to bring light into our lives. Her courage and resilience were an inspiration to us all.
Chef had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed with her wagging tail and infectious enthusiasm. Her love for people was evident in her joyful greetings and her eagerness to lend a paw.
